May 8 My Mother

Happy Mothers’ Day! I have not given birth, but I have heard my mother’s tales of being in labor for more than 20 hours (or was it 24?) before her doctor decided to do a C-section. For some reason, she thought I was worth all this trouble. And then, of course, the following years of constant care, meals cooked, money spent on schooling and piano lessons and clothes and weird things that children MUST have, like Caboodles.

I can’t even begin to appreciate this until I have children of my own. (Does recognizing this limitation count for something?)

But, I can say meager thanks.
