We’ve been having trouble with our TV signal, so a repairman came today to see about it. He correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. I’m glad it didn’t turn into a saga, and we weren’t left to try to figure it out ourselves.

My Bible study had a potluck dinner tonight. Potlucks are great for so many reasons. One, you don’t have to fix an entire meal for all the people. Two, you get to taste and discover new dishes. But of course, the best part is the shared laughter and conversation.

Can you imagine roadtrips – or for commuters, your daily commute – without music?
I often listen to the news radio station here in D.C., mainly because I’m listening for the traffic report. But I love being able to put on some music to ease commuting tension or get me pumped up for the day. From ye olde tape decks to today’s iPod hookups, music in the car is wonderful.

I’ve talked about perfect understanding, which only God has. No one else is going to have that perfect understanding of all our feelings and circumstances, but sometimes we are blessed with friends and family members who empathize with us about different things. Whether it’s a struggle we’re going through or something quirky that makes us happy, it’s awesome to share that appreciation with someone. It’s another reminder of why we need multiple people in our lives – one person can’t possibly understand everything! I hope you’ll take a moment to think of your family members and friends and the unique things you share with each one.

I would love to eat fresh peaches year-round, and I wish Starbucks would have the pumpkin spice latte year-round. But I know that seasonal treats are treats because they are seasonal. So I can enjoy summery watermelon and look forward to wintry gingerbread.

I made some plans with a colleague for October. And it occurred to me that 1) I expect to be working at my current job then, and 2) I WANT to be working at my current job then. This is a fantastic combination.

Sorry for the women-specific post, but it happens. Today is one of those days when my feet/ankles really need a break, and I’m thankful to be able to wear flats!

I went to a networking reception tonight. The mere mention of “networking” probably makes many people cringe. And yes, sometimes these functions are more grin-and-bear-it than anything. But this one was filled with eager, interested students. They wanted to hear about internship opportunities in D.C., and they were genuinely interested in hearing about my experiences. Their enthusiasm made me happy to share what I could with them and point a few of them toward organizations I thought they might find interesting.
Networking is one of those what-goes-around-comes-around areas of life. Many people helped me when I was a student, and it’s a blessing to be able to pass that along. (I was going to say “to the next generation,” but hopefully I’m not quite that old yet.

My Bible study just finished going through “Forgotten God” by Francis Chan. I didn’t realize that Chan is sort of popular. That’s probably an understatement, but I just didn’t know before we started the study. I highly recommend this book and the group study. It goes through what the Bible has to say about the Holy Spirit, and it asks a lot of questions of the reader – good and challenging questions.

Paying bills is no fun. But, it surely beats the alternative of not being able to pay them.
