When I was growing up, my dad had this habit of taking me on a last-minute (often Christmas Eve) shopping trip for my mom. It showed me that wasn’t the best or the most enjoyable way to find gifts. Thanks in large part to online shopping, I am done with my gift buying for this year already! Now, about those Christmas cards…

We put up our Christmas tree yesterday, and it is beautiful. I have always loved decorating the tree and then just sitting near it. The smell is fantastic. When I come down the stairs into our living room, I get hit with this deliciously Christmasy blast.
Every time I think about our tree, I’m singing this song in my head. Enjoy.

I proved to myself yesterday that I’m not too old to take a 3-hour (one-way) Friday night road trip to see my favorite band and get home at 2 a.m. Not exactly something I can do every weekend. I’m thankful my intrepid friend EG was up for being my partner in crime on this one.

What is it that makes competition so fun and enlivening? My husband’s family is very competitive, and whenever we get together, we play lots of games. From ping-pong to poker, Jenga to Jeopardy, everyone wants to win – and that makes it lots of fun. (It also helps that I’m much better at losing than I was when I was a kid.)

Tonight I had the privilege of seeing an advance screening of the new Muppet movie. I am a big Muppet fan, and I love their brand of humor. It is just pure joy. I love how they appeal to kids and adults at the same time. This kind of humor is a guilt-free delight. (Note: Don’t watch the trailer before going! It steals some surprises. )

We had a mild weather day today and took advantage of it by playing minigolf! My parents are serious forces when it comes to minigolf, and my husband and I are very competitive. It was really fun to have that opportunity!

Is it dumb (or just really girly) to be thankful for sales? I got to do some fun shopping with my mom today – who taught me the value of bargain hunting! – and we benefited from some great sales.

Even though the end of Daylight Savings Time is technically evened out by its return, we enjoy “falling back” because it gives the appearance of adding an extra hour to our lives. Most of us use this as an excuse to stay up later. Watching a girly movie with friends was my use of the extra hour. What was yours?

My husband and I are going on a real, honest-to-goodness, unplugging from work vacation! I’ll definitely have some new and exotic yays to report.

‘Tis the season! I’ve been rejoicing with friends about the advent of pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks, pulling out jeans and hoodies, and just the general boost that a slight chill in the air brings. Fall is my FAVORITE season. Today is our first truly fallish day, and though it will probably get back into the 80s next week, for now it’s pure happy.
