We drank a lot of water on our vacation, both bottled and tap. When we got home, I found it interesting that our tap water at home tasted better than even the bottled water elsewhere. Maybe it’s just my home bias, but hey, I’m glad we have tasty water! More importantly, I’m glad we have a faucet and can safely drink what comes out of it.

I am SO GLAD my workplace has manual-flush toilets. By gosh, I don’t want that toilet to flush until I tell it to.

We recently visited Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, and one of its most impressive features was the ice house. Jefferson’s household took ice from the frozen river during the winter and stored it in this giant underground structure during the summer months.
I remember watching “Lassie” as a kid and seeing the ice man bring the block of ice for the family’s icebox. We got it good, folks.

Yes. I went there.
How could I go an entire year and not be thankful for these? This has to be one of the greatest applications of my Pioneer Principle. I would not want to be a woman in any society earlier than this one.
Don’t worry, men – this post is over now.

Paying bills is no fun. But, it surely beats the alternative of not being able to pay them.

Yesterday I watched an inordinate amount of television. But it was intentional – it was rest. After some busy weekends and weeks, I took the time to do nothing. And as Peter says in “Office Space,” “It was all I thought it could be.”

I felt really weird today. Now, men will not understand what that means, but women will. When I got home, I had a to-do list in my head. I should go to the gym. I should take that dress to be altered. I should… But I didn’t feel like doing anything. So, I took a nap.
I hadn’t taken a nap in I don’t know when. I felt like it wasn’t really justified. I mean, I hadn’t exactly toiled out in the fields all day or anything. But I decided to go ahead and listen to my body (again, do men ever say that?). Sometimes, we just have to give ourselves grace – and permission not to get everything done.

How have I not written about sleep yet?? Oh, glorious sleep. I am thankful that I have not lost the ability to sleep in on Saturdays (my husband can’t stay asleep past about 8:00). I could be confused with a teenager some days, when I have the opportunity to stay knocked out as long as possible. In my previous job, I had to work on Saturday mornings. I am thoroughly enjoying my regained slumber.

Shelter is one of our most basic needs, and one that is easy to take for granted. We’re having awful weather today – it was rain, then freezing rain, and now snow. I am thankful that I don’t have to worry about staying warm and dry.
