Switchfoot are SUCH lyrical geniuses. I have a list of their song lyrics I want to use for blog post titles. I'm a total lyrical plagiarist.

Also so moved by Switchfoot, especially the song Golden, many good tunes on New Way to be Human which i don't physically own any more so I am working from memory here, but you know the song that starts "under the floor between me and the door" something something. I'm not too good on lyrics but I love the sound and sentiment.

Hope you had a good Christmas! I might take your prayer card idea, or something like it and use it, especially since I'm going to try to make fasting of some sort a more regular discipline. And, if you want them, I have 2 potato recipe suggestions for you. One for sweet potato, one regular. The sweet potato one I've made many many times and is delicious and healthy. The other one is on my list of recipes I want to try at some point and is not quite as healthy but sounds delicious.

The regular potato one is an Artichoke & Yukon Gold Potato Gratin I found on smitten kitchen -- http://smittenkitchen.com/2006/11/when-the-stars-make-you-drool/

The sweet potato one a friend created and is called "Viking Hash" and is pretty simple:

"[in coconut oil] pan fry bacon in bite-size pieces to desired crispiness

throw in chopped onion for a few minutes after bacon is cooked how you like it

[once onion is softened,] dump in shredded sweet potato and salt and pepper to taste

stir together, put a lid on, and cook the sweet potato stirring several times over medium heat (takes 15minutes ish)

this is the original recipe...there are lots of alternatives like adding sausage or other meats or vegetables, white/red potatoes instead of sweet, zucchini or squash instead of sweet potatoes, cayenne pepper or other seasonings to change of the flavor. HOWEVER, the original recipe to me has been the best and is VERY addicting :)

good ratio of ingredients (for flavor, not necessarily macro-nutrient ratios):

1/2 lb bacon
1 med onion
3 med sweet potatoes

eggs is the best combination with the hash, not to mention it beefs up the lack of protein."

Very nice post. My sons, both musicians, have been greatly influenced by Switchfoot. It's a very compelling experience to be my age, over 45, and listen to their music and hear their words. There are layers there, and it speaks to my sons and I in different ways. I think music is successful when it moves within generational boundaries.
