As I was eating some almond granola today, I was once again amused by the labeling on nut products. They usually say something like, “PEANUT PECAN ALMOND GRANOLA: This product may contain nuts.”
Amusement aside, I was thankful to be able to eat it.

It’s hard not to notice smokers, since you can smell them. When I see one commuting in the car in front of me (like I did this morning), holding his cigarette out the window, I turn on the recirculation in my car so I don’t take in the fumes. People are outside office buildings on their smoke breaks at any given time of day.
I’ve never tried a cigarette. I never ended up in one of those after-school special peer pressure situations regarding smoking (or drugs), and even if I had, I just think it’s gross. (My cravings tend toward sweets – thankfully or unthankfully…) I know this can become a hard-to-break habit and cause serious health problems, and I’m thankful I can focus my energies elsewhere, like going to the gym to do penance for that sweet tooth.

That’s right. It’s a royal wedding-related post. Ha ha! Everybody’s doing it! One of the news threads related to tomorrow’s nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton: all the freedoms Kate is giving up when she marries into the royal family. Of course, it’s been quite some time since she had a normal level of privacy (please pronounce that as the British “PRIV-uh-see” in your head).
During a moment of mindlessness today, I paged through some photos of celebrities on People.com. I love how magazines describe the outrageous getups celebrities wear. If I stepped out (have you noticed how they always describe famous folk as “stepping out”?) in a bright orange suit (yes, suit!) with a navy-and-white striped knit shirt underneath, I can only imagine 1) the looks I would get and 2) my co-workers’ laughter and queries about where the circus was. But when Ashley Olsen does it, she “makes a bright and bold statement in a coral suit as she steps out Wednesday in downtown Manhattan.”
Hilarious. I’m just glad I don’t have to deal with photographers documenting my every move and fashionistas picking apart every wardrobe choice. “Amy stepped out today in Old Navy shoes, carrying a Macy’s clearance handbag…”

This may sound weird, but I’m thankful I don’t have to worry about drugs. I had to take a drug test today for my new job, and it’s the first time I’ve ever had to do that. On my way to the lab, I thought about the world of hurt and difficulty that comes with getting involved in drug abuse. For many people, that is an everyday struggle. By God’s grace, I visited the drug testing lab with no worries.
